Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol cancelled after one season

Those at streaming service Peacock felt that all of the story had been told.

US streaming service Peacock has cancelled Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol after one season. 

It was adapted from Dan Brown’s 2009 novel of the same name which serves as a prequel to his wildly successful bestseller The Da Vinci Code. 

Succession’s Ashley Zukerman stars as a younger version of Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon who must solve a series of deadly puzzles in order to save his mentor and thwart a global conspiracy.  

Eddie Izzard, Valorie Curry, Beau Knapp, Rick Gonzalez and Sumalee Montano round out the rest of the main cast. 

No viewing figures have been released but according to Variety, both the streaming service and the show’s producers felt that the complete story had been told. 

The series was originally developed at US network NBC before they passed it over to streaming service Peacock who gave it a full series order. 

All ten episodes were written by Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie with 10 Cloverfield Lane’s Dan Trachtenberg having directed the pilot. 

“We were so proud to bring this action-packed mystery thriller to our members and enjoyed watching this compelling series unfold with a satisfying, complete story,” said a spokesperson for Peacock in a statement.   

“We’re grateful to Dan Dworkin, Jay Beattie, Dan Brown, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard along with CBS Studios, Imagine Television and UTV for bringing this international bestselling novel to life.”

The first and only season of The Lost Symbol is available to stream on Sky and NOW.
