New The Walking Dead spinoff Isle of the Dead greenlit
The series will follow Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) battling zombies in New York.
US network AMC has ordered a fifth The Walking Dead spinoff titled Isle of the Dead.
The show will revolve around Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in New York City “a place that was long ago cut off from the mainland.”
It’s described as being “full of the living and dead alike” suggesting that alongside battling against hordes of deadly zombies they’ll have to contend with groups of potentially hostile humans too.
Isle of the Dead is set to consist of six episodes and will premiere sometime in 2023. Eli Jorné, who served as a writer and co-executive producer on the main show, will act as showrunner.
“I'm delighted that Negan and Maggie's journey continues," said Morgan. "It's been such a ride walking in Negan's shoes, I'm excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren.”
“Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? The greatest city in the world?”
The main Walking Dead show is currently in the midst of airing the second part of its eleventh and final season.
So far, a total of four other spin offs have been greenlit, Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead and an untitled series that’s set to follow fan favourites Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride).
You can stream new episodes of The Walking Dead season 11 weekly on Disney+'s Star.
