First trailer for Netflix's Power of the Dog
This is one of many big-name films that is coming to the streaming platform in the latter half of 2021.
Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming drama film Power of the Dog.
Directed by Top of the Lake’s Jane Campion, Benedict Cumberbatch stars as a “severe, pale-eyed and brutally beguiling” cowboy named Phil Burbank who runs a hugely successful ranch with his brother George (Jesse Plemons).
The latter soon marries the widowed Rose (Kirsten Dunst) and brings her and her son Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee) to live with them.
Despite cruelly tormenting them to begin with, Phil surprisingly takes the inexperienced Peter under his wing. Is this a genuinely kind, apologetic gesture or the start of something significantly more sinister?
Thomasin McKenzie, American Horror Story’s Francis Conroy, Genevieve Lemon, Keith Carradine, Peter Carroll and Adam Beach round out the rest of the main cast.
Campion also wrote the screenplay for the film which is based on the 1967 novel of the same name by American author Thomas Savage.
Power of the Dog is due to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next week before hitting select cinemas in November. It will then become available to stream on Netflix from 1st December.
